The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me. It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!
THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.
TODAY: Sunny. High of 59. “C”
SUNDAY: Sunny. High of 60. “C”
Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog.
For a while yet, until the timing is just right for the Fischers, The Barking Lot is how I live vicariously through other dog owners. While it doesn’t offer tail wags, hand licks or games of fetch, I will say it’s cheaper and easier. That’s because our dog will be almost as spoiled as our daughter. There will be unnecessary treats for no reason at all, a birthday celebration, and depending on our future pup’s social circle even a dog-centered party or two. That’s just how we roll (over) in our family.
I generally like doggie Halloween costumes. Unless they appear truly uncomfortable or unsafe for the pooch, I see nothing wrong with a little seasonal humiliation for your canine family member. So what if Fido’s get-up is so doggone cute it’s not enough just to take him along with the kids as you Trick-or-Treat? Might I suggest a Howl-o-ween party?
Why yes, I am crazy enough to tell you to host a spooky & treat-filled party for your pet. Why not? I can think of nuttier things than a gathering of two- and four-legged friends (mostly in costume) to celebrate a holiday that centers around scaring yourself & others and eating too much candy. As with any good party, preplanning is essential. You never know how much of a hit it could be, especially if you include bobbing for tennis balls or hot dogs in addition to apples (like Sue Subkow or Kimberly Schlegel Whitman.)
You could even take a cue from party maven Amy Locurto. She designed a set of printables for her exclusive members of Living Locurto. How cute are these?
Aw, go ahead. You know you want to do it. And since you’re already aware that chocolate is a no-no for all dogs, you’ll just have to keep that Snickers all to yourself. 😉
P.S. Feel free to post some photos via a Facebook comment of your pup in its Halloween finery, or of your own poochcentric party.
