Recently an official of the organizing body for Franklin’s popular 4th of July parade went on social media to ask for suggestions about how to make the annual event better. The inquiry generated a great deal of online discussion.
There were plenty of ideas. Many were very good. Floats, bands, music, more entertainment. And there was the inevitable mention(s) about those awful people that put out chairs and set up tents in advance.
it seems as if these “tent/chair invaders” may be doing it out of tradition. If so, have them purchase a “permit” for the space. Maybe sell rope at a fixed cost, and they can square off the area. Then that money can be donated to parade expenditures.
Yes my husband and I were talking about the buying space also… At least the city would benefit from it. We didn’t do the parade this year due to the blocking off space.
Purchasing space? That would be a fee.
Another word for fee is “tax.”
In Franklin we already pay obscene taxes.
Charging taxpayers to watch the parade? Downright loony.
